Lunch Buffet and Discussion of Teaching Geographical Models

Moderator Michael D. Sublett (Illinois State University) will lead round-table discussion focused on workable approaches to teaching the many geographical models.

Session 3: Opportunities and Resources for Teachers

Various topics discussed including how to become an AP Human Geography Reader/Leader, an overview of the new digital Illinois Atlas for Teachers currently under development, and free resources available from the Illinois Geographic Alliance.

1:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.

Session 4: Field Excursion

Greg Sherwin (Adlai E. Stevenson High School) will lead the group on a local field excursion focused on new urbanism as an example of how to analyze the human landscape in the area near one's school. Includes convoy of private vehicles (carpooling possible) to field site, small group data-collection and mapping, and debriefing of activity with ideas for how teachers could translate to other areas with their own students.
