Keynote

We are excited to announce that Dr. Jonathan Thayn, Associate Professor of Geography at Illinois State University, will present the keynote for the 2019 Geography Education in the 21st Century Conference.

Dr. Thayn grew up in a relatively small coal-mining community in southeastern Utah, halfway between the Book Cliff Mountains and the desert of the San Rafael Swell. His interest in geography first took root as he hiked, explored and camped with family and friends in the wilderness around his home. Fieldwork continues to be a principal element of his research, which focuses on understanding landscape-scale ecosystems, their response to perturbation, and their seasonal variations. Dr. Thayn's primary research tools are remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and statistical spatial analysis.

For the keynote, Dr. Thayn will present "Invigorating Learning with Genuine Research Experiences."
